Artist Biography
Background

Artist Leigh Ann Willar McDonagh, AKA Gila Girl, was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania, USA. At age 17, she left home for a year's study abroad as an exchange student in the U.K. On returning to the States, she studied filmmaking and fine art at Penn State University, eventually settling in Denver, Colorado USA in the 1980s, where she worked as a writer and editor. She relocated to the U.K. in 2001 and earned her BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art and Contemporary Cultures with the University of Gloucestershire in 2018. She is a member of Coventry ArtSpace, working from her 11th floor studio there, high above Coventry city centre. She has been telling stories and “making stuff” for a very long time.
